Winter Quarter – Photographic History

13 02 2010

In History this quarter, Deanna Washington and I will be researching and attempting the platinum alternative printing technique.  This technique was a preferred method of several major photographers, including Edward Steichen and Alfred Stieglitz.  The warm, rich tonal range and the longevity of the prints are two reasons for platinum being a favored technique.  I will show you our images as we continue through this process.  For now, enjoy this beautiful image of Abraham Lincoln taken by Alexander Hesler: Springfield- June 3, 1860.  Vintage platinum print by George Bucher Ayres: late 1890’s.   TTFN SDG
